The saga of an infected eye.

This whole situation with Ariel's eye has been so crazy. My husband and I went to church by ourselves. One of those rare occasions where we get to be alone. As church was finishing I got several phone calls from my son,who informed me that his sister got nail polish remover in her eye and was screaming like a banshee.

When I got home I quickly rushed her to Urgent care, where they spent a good hour flushing out her eye.The doctor there used a black light and some medication that made her eye glow and told me she had burned her Cornea. Then gave her ointment. Her eye looked better after the flushes.

As the days went on and she used all the things given to her, and her eye was looking worse and oozing and weeping and getting all stuck together.

We finally ended up at an Opthalmologist, but I wasn't too impressed with him.She was in so much pain and her eye was just not getting better. He basically told us nothing.Ariel cried all night that night and I was upset. So being the mama bear I am made another appointment with a different doctor at another clinic.

I took her to the appointment the next day only to discover it was the same doctor, only he was at a different office.I told them we would wait for another appointment with the other doctor as I was pretty sure he wasn't going to do anything.
We ended up seeing him on Friday. On that day her eye looked like this.

The doctor was so kind.He said her eye was a mess.It was like a big open sore.He said it had developed pitts all in it and it had swollen glands and it was highly contagious.I explained to him that with her impairment it's very hard to keep her hands away from her eye.He understood and informed us he believed she was allergic to the ointment the other guy gave her.She is doing the Antibiotic drops every couple of hours and her eye is looking better already.I'm so thankful for a doctor that thinks outside of the box.

The Food & craft fair.

Ariel & I went to The Food & Craft Fair last weekend. We had so much fun! I just love to look at all the neat little things. We rarely buy anything, but it's fun to look.

There were all sorts of pretty decorations.

Then there were things that not only looked pretty, but smelled delightful.

Then there were things that were whimsical as well as practical.

Then there were things that were just plain tasty.

Ariel saw a gal painting faces and she so wanted to have it done, this was before the whole eye mess.

Everyone was very impressed with the finished job and kept making comments to Ariel. She was of course beaming.

I liked watching this man work a true Craftsman.

After the craft fair I took Ariel to the mall to get a Strawberry Julius,I had a coupon you know. Also to get samples at Sees & Hickory Farms and to look at decorations.

We had a wonderful day of smelling and tasting samples,Kettle Corn, face painting and just enjoying all the beautiful sights and sounds. You don't have to have a lot of money to make things special for your kids.Make memories with them, those last a lot longer.

Thankfulness and a grateful heart.

I was blessed to go to church today for Sunday school and morning and evening service.Unfortunately with Daniel just having a seizure and Ariel and Michael still ill with this Bronchial stuff they weren't able to make it.

The message today was on thankfulness. With this being the season of Thanksgiving, hopefully we remember to be thankful to the Lord for all he does for us,but are we truly thankful every day and in all circumstances? Or just one day a year and only in good circumstances? I'll admit it is so much easier to be thankful when there is money in the bank and food on the table and no medical issues going on.

We learned a lot more about the voyage of The Mayflower and how the Pilgrims came to America to find religious freedom. We learned about the horrid circumstances The Pilgrims were in when they sailed across the ocean and the first difficult winter they endured.

A lot of these things we already knew, but when you really think about their circumstances you realize how scary it must have been for them.
Imagine leaving home and going to a foreign and very much uninhabited land.
It must have been pretty frightening, but yet they were willing to do it to worship The Lord in the way that they knew was right.

The Pilgrims delt with damp and smelly quarters, rough seas, cold weather, starvation and a mountain of other difficulties and lost half of the Pilgrims the first year, but yet they started each day with prayer and thanksgiving, thanking God for all things.

It really puts me to shame to think about all the times I have grumbled and complained about the most insignificant things.

I am so blessed to live in a free country,to have food and shelter and clean water to drink. When my kids are sick or hurt I can take them for care and get them needed medical attention and medicine.

You don't really think about all the things you take for granted, until something like your power goes out and you see how much just having hot water, heat or electricity means.

Psalm 100:3-5

King James Version (KJV)

3Know ye that the LORD he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.
4Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name.
5For the LORD is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations.

Even in the times we are in the midst of trial and tribulation and trouble seems to be abounding we are to be thankful.

Philippians 4:6-7

King James Version (KJV)

6Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.
7And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Proverbs 17:22
A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones.

By giving thanks to God in all things we are bringing peace and joy to ourselves.

1 Thessalonians 5:18

King James Version (KJV)

18In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

My family and I  started the tradition  years ago of every Thanksgiving going around the table and each person naming something they are thankful for.
When you really start to count your blessings, you see there is so much to be thankful for.

This Thanksgiving I hope to be thankful in all things and in all circumstances.
